    A Hacktivist is a hacker who uses their understanding of computer code for a good cause.

    While hackers have become synonymous with cyber-criminals, and Hacktivists are purportedly the good guys although their actions can still involve what the establishment  considers criminal activity.

    Hacktivists commonly crack passwords to gain access to secret data which they then publish for the public good or they commandeer other people’s computers or networks to launch denial-of-service attacks on websites they deem to be engaging in harmful activity.

    Example usage:

    “Those hacktivists leaked the names of the Bilderberg members!”.
