    A “Jonah” is a person who constantly sees the negative side of things, a doom-monger. From the long-established nautical expression “a Jonah” meaning a person (either a sailor or a passenger) whose presence on board a ship brings bad luck and endangers the crew and cargo.

    “Don’t be such a Jonah, I’m sure things will turn out just fine!”.
