    X Amount

    “X Amount” is slang for an unknown amount or quantity.

    The expression comes from school algebra where students are continuously asked to find the value of X or the amount of fishing vessels represented by X.

     

    Example usage:

    “Dear Algebra, stop asking us to look for your X, she’s not coming back. And we don’t know Y either…”
